I'm looking for perceptions, Stormers. If you were driving down the highway and saw a billboard that advertised "DE-CYCLING" what is your first thought? Your second? How do you feel about the word? What assumptions do you make about it? Positive? Negative? Is there a category of goods/services you would automatically put it in?

1st thought: Stuff made from recycled materials.
2nd thought: no, wait, that doesn't make sense
3rd thought: maybe it's some kind of bicycling thing
I immediately associated the word with recycling. I didn't have any negative associations until I realized my first thought didn't make sense, at which point I tried to make sense of the "de" prefix.
I'm still thinking it's somehow recycling related. Anything about bikes seems like a reach.

1st thought - one time use only - opposite of recycling - use it and throw it away.
2nd thoght - get bicyles off the road - anti-bicycling.
Both have a negative conotation and imply ant-green industry.

ryhmes with re-cycling which is big positive these days what with all the global warming and environment issues .... So... anything against re-cycling seems negative which is what the first impression of the word de-cycling sounds
On second thoughts though it makes you stop and think as to what could de-cycling mean...

To me, it is a negative connotation and the inferred opposite of recycling or possibly to not cycle, ie bicycle.

Recycling has a very positive connotation. When you turn it into a negative, it gains a more destructive meaning. Immediately, de-cycling sounds to me like trashing things or tearing them apart. Second, it sounds like a movement opposed to cyclist on roads or some like conflict.
Good luck!

Otherwise, it is too confusing and takes too much thought to process while driving. BUT, it is catchy enough for someone to be intrigued, remember, and go to the site later.

What you do with it is up to you since nothing is "particularly" staked out for the connotative meaning. However, it could certainly be linked to excess and waste as it isn't too far away from being anti-green. So, you have to be careful what with the category of product or service you are labeling that you don't have any bleedover negativity.

De-Cycling means to me upon first impression stationary or not moving. Second thought is that if you're not moving, may be your thinking about what move to make next. To cycle is to place in motion. De-Cycling seems to indicate stopping, thinking, and then placing motion in possibly a different direction.

I immediately think of the concept of getting a longer useful life out of products/objects - lengthening the cycle. Instead of having a necessary cycle that makes goods 'Re-useful', just make them work for longer. This may mean making things at a higher level of quality / durability which is really good and slows consumption.

When I first read it, I thought it said de-icing like what you do to a airplane in the winter. Getting the ice off so you can get the plane safely in the air. IF De-Cycling is to mean getting the old thoughts of Re-Cycling into the trash can and implementing a new way of recycling, there might be something here.
