1. Practice many times, with a clock running - make sure you can keep it on schedule. 2. People can't tell excitement from nervousness - so if you start to feel nervous act like you are really excited about what you are talking about. The symptoms are all the same! 3. Relax, everyone in your audience would be far more nervous giving a talk like you are. You are 5 steps ahead of them and have no real reason to be nervous.

Know your speech well. Practice your main talking points and organization. Present it calmly and assertively and don't be timid or afraid. Use whatever fear or nervousness you have as energy to project your speech. Channel it inward and don't show it outwardly.

"be the ball", I have always practiced my talks, in my head, all the time for days, hours, minutes, before show time, I did not need to practice before a mirror, your mind is the perfect mirror.

remember your speech is like being an actor, really know your lines, know them inside out, and you can't be flustered.
no matter what, the show must go on and your prepared for anything.

everyone gets the butterflies before a public speech, I've given hundreds,
the trick is to have the butterflies fly in formation, it's o.k., your the speaker, the audience is not.

The best TED talkers know how to structure a speech, when to walk around, when to stay still, and speak conversationally, giving emphasis where it comes naturally. Be friendly, thank your hosts. Always make eye contact, even if you don't know to who because the lights are too bright. Practice in front of preferably a friends, but if not, a pet will do.

1. Practice, practice, practice.
2. Think positive thoughts.
3. Project love [via Keith Ferrazzi]: "Just before walking to the podium, look into the eyes of as many people in the room as you can. Project every ounce of your being into the thought that they are going to love your message.
And don't try to be funny if you're not! :)

The more comfortable you are with being you, the easier it will be to speak to anyone. The more you try to be someone you are not, the more stress you will have.

Avoid text heavy power points. If you must use a power pt doc, make sure that it complements rather than repeats what you say.

Go to YouTube and spend some time getting ideas from other talks. Watch some good ones and some that bombed, too, so that you'll know what not to do.

Make sure you know about the audience and their perspective. Use their language, use examples that tie into their daily work / lives, call out one of their peers (maybea person or a company) that they can relate to. You can even call and ask some people what concerns and challenges they have with your topic to further get in the shoes of the audience.
