And try to leave it there as long as possible. Knowing you have $5 in your pocket that is not allowed to leave it, will make you think twice when spending money. Worked for me.

DONT CARRY PLASTIC or CASH unless you need to. +1.35

Jumping on the Cash theme, if you don't carry a credit card or drastically reduce the ones you carry, and focus on Cashy, you are more likely to not buy something. IF you really want to curb spending, don't carry very much cash. If you dont have it with you, you cannot spend it.

BUY USED: Everything can be had used +2.96

Not only is it good for the environment, buying used is SMART. I paide under 50% for a bike rack and tow hitch assembly by using Craigslist to buy an item used 4 times and absolutely new. I bought two road bikes, never been ridden but several years old for less than 40% of their value. Craigslist might not have it so check other sources, but it saves tons of money if your patient.

Number 1 idea: Budget better and USE CASH +2.96

When people use CASH and I dont mean an ATM card, they spend on average 15% less than when they use Credit. Even using Cash over Check saves money. It is mostly psychological in nature but the savings are REAL.

1) Use sites suck as http://www.slickdeals.net/ and get a deal 2) Buy used when ever you can...Craigslist 3) Grocery shop and eat at home. This will save most families 10%+ a month on bills

Call your Credit Card companies and ask for a lower % rate +3.62
score
Add A Comment

Most cards will lower your rate by just asking for one. "Do you have a lower rate available for me?" is often all it takes. 2nd line of defense is bluff about canceling your card and opening with another bank. Once your trial rate expires, they will have room to lower the % to keep you as a customer but you have to ASK! TRY IT!

Then use that money to upgrade other things like my computer, camera, phone, etc... Just sell the thing your upgrading & use the money from things you don't use to pay for the newer device. I also write a grid next to my shopping list, & write down the prices of each item from different stores so I can figure out which order to shop in & at what store. Buy in bulk hygiene & basics. Rent movies from netflicks rather then buying them or driving to the video store. use your neighbors wifi & cancel your internet for a bit until they find out. If they do find out then ask to pay $15-$20 a month then just give them a $50 for a few months, they'll probably forget about it by the time you should pay again... :]

I just had to submit this one, I won Money and had a ball for about 15 minutes of my time. I had such a kick and I made more than my friend who writes books for the amount of time I spent writing. OH, I took money & bought items at yardsale which I sold on Ebay for MORE money! THANK YOU for the fun!!!

I sell EVERYTHING but clothes on Ebay. Clothes go to a consignment shop as well as fragile items. Books also do well on Ebay or Amazon. I shop at yard sales, I rarely buy anything new & when I do I make it really special! Same goes for jewelry. I even make some and sell it on the Internet!

Literally what you hear all the time is what you think about. All situations are created by YOU and how YOU react to them. I listen to songs that say, it's getting better everyday, money is coming to me etc. Try it & smile. Life is a gift, live in the present!

Always plan large meals at home and set aside some of that for your current meal, and save/freeze the rest. Buy all your meats at Costco / Sams whole, and butcher / cut them yourself. Instead of going out to the bar for drinks, have friends over and drink at home, thus saving even more money. Think about it, a single drink/beer out in the bar is almost the cost of a six pack. And when buying your beer / alcohol on sale, the savings will add up even quicker.

Instead of going out to a bar or restaurant, we do most of our socializing at our house and our friends' houses. Often the guys watch a sporting event at one house while the ladies hang out at another, or we all hang out together at one house. Each couple brings a drink or snack, and occasionally someone makes dinner, but we have a really fun night "out" for less than $20!
