Independently from religions: do we exist in a parallel dimension, a place where isn't necessary breath or eat, a place where you are a new essence, a place we don't know how it's made. When I was young i thought: i don't want to live forever; now i think if is possible to live forever. Maybe this could be boring or sad or paranoic, but I think this question is redundant in the human species. (Thanks for this question, Alessio!)

Whether or not we have a soul is based on a spiritual belief system. For centuries, most humans do believe we not only have a soul, but there is actually an afterlife. Choosing to believe we have a soul is like having insurance which most people do have. This soul insurance helps us to not only live better lives and care for mankind in this world relieves the fears we have about death. Regardless of the spiritual system you subscribe to, believing we have a soul and treating that and other souls well will secure us a happy place in the afterlife.

Everything exists because we think, understand and operate.
Without brain, we can't have emotions.
The science and evolution has improved our lifestyle and I think will come a day where our brains will be connected to "computer" to live forever.

I think our perception is soggettive, with different visions by what our mind understands.
The hoping, the joy, the expectations are in the human being, which compared with the others species appears as the most evolved. In the knowed universe.
Are we the chosen or only lucky?
It's harrowing think that we are like a switch: ON/OFF.

Each person has a soul. The collectivization of the "soul" of humankind is a fiction. It is a construct often co-opted for evil.

"Soul" is a vague notion with varying definitions across cultures and time. If the question is, "Do we exist in a parallel dimension?" then it is necessary to look to what we know about the Universe (so far) to form an hypothesis. We know with a reasonable degree of certainty that there are more dimensions than the ones we are equipped to naturally perceive, and that our corporeal selves may in some way reside in or be affected by these dimensions. But to assert that the as-of-yet unseen and undiscovered suggest some sort of immortal afterlife seems a bit of a stretch to me. Until we truly pin down extra-dimensional science and concepts like string theory, I think we're bound to continue to rely on faith to comfort our deepest yearnings for a benevolent afterlife. ...but what a journey of awe wonder to pursue the answer to this question!

Yes, we have a soul. It is our conscience. It is the decisions we make everyday, the person we are today, the person we are becoming tomorrow. Will you be the guy who leaches on society, or the guy that gives back? Becoming materially rich is easier than we make it out to be, but being happy in our soul...we have to earn that everyday. So that is your soul...what you do with this life and the legacy you leave when you die...not necessarily to be remembered forever for who you are....to be remember forever for what you did for society.

I do think we have a soul. But not as an entity out of our body/brain.
I see our soul (or consciousness) as a reflection of our brain on what is in our memory.
You can try it for yourself: whenever you think or feel conscious, it's by reflecting on things you know or have experienced.
Even vague concepts like imagination, dreams and creativity heavily lean on our previous experience, although in these cases mixed and mingled into something that was not there before.
A soul: yes. But no mysticism with it for me. As soon as the machine breaks, the ghost dies with it.
