Once you're incorporated you're bombarded with tax forms, everything costs more because you're a "business". I was at "Startup Camp" here at UT, an entrepreneur claimed someone came to his house and demanded tax on his desk. Huh? I've read books about incorporating, have the Secretary of State website links, I'm working on a BBA now, yet don't feel incorporating is worth it. I'm not even a "millennial" and I will not tolerate confusing web forms, for example to pay the local sales tax, what incoherent garbage! I'm all in favor of paying the IRS, Texas, whoever. You would find more enterprising people if you could cram everything required into one official software app, integrated with the IRS, Texas, and anyone else I'll owe money too, with a guarantee of no surprise fees/taxes not in the interface. Then support it, offer free training, make it pretty, write it all in plain English.

In traditional practice, entrepreneur networks provide "resources" (ie: model business plans, financial documents, etc.). However in this day and age those resources are readily available on the Internet. What the Internet is incapable of doing, but that a local network such as yourself is perfectly positioned for, is building the local community of entrepreneurs. My "idea" is that you hold weekly (or bi-weekly) events for entrepreneurs to get together, meet potential co-founders, share ideas with peers. Additionally, if you're capable of providing mentors (both successful entrepreneurs and those involved in funding startups) you can make the community events even more valuable. Good luck with your future endeavors. I'll look forward to coming to an event the next time I'm in Austin!

Help Investors Overcome Obastacles to Purchasing & Managing Residential Real Estate +1.76

Right now experienced investors can't get a mortgage loan if he/she owns 4 of more investment properties no matter how good their credit is. Thus, experienced real estate investors have been knocked out of the market. Suggestions: 1. Give real estate landlord classes to novice would be landlords. 2. Put together a group of regional lenders willing to do portfolio loans on purchases of rental property. This twofold approach will help to stabilize housing prices in Austin since many of the bargain properties that are for sale need too much work to be suitable for cash strapped 1st time buyers.

Provide templates for developing business plans, marketing plans, pro forma statements. Availability of volunteer "Board of Director" coaches (retired execs) to help them thru concept & template development. Access to a network of Angel Investors and Venture Capitalists - once minimum requirements have been met (something beyond just a good concept -- solid numbers).

The best way for entrepreneur to grow is to have support of other people who are going through the same challenges or have already done it. Learning from others can skip some of the growing pains for starting a business.
