If you split the driving with one other person, you get half of that time to read/knit/text/etc (BTW, 20 hrs/wk => 1000-1040 hrs/year).
If you split the driving with three others, you get 750 hours back.
You could also use mass transit, it would probably add a couple of hours a day, but you could spend that time cleaning out your email (they have wi-fi), doing some of your work, or catching up on sleep.

So much enters our minds when in a situation like this. Random thoughts of things to do, ideas, mistakes we made and birthdays we forgot. I suggest an iPhone application type program for our smart phones or even radios that is voice activated to take notes like a digital secretary and organize them into folders. At the end of each session, the DigiSec can send them to our email or calendar. The data can be stored on .wav files.

Books on tape is a marvelous opportunity while riding in a car every day. How about a system like NetFlix for commuters? Order the book, listen to it during your commute, drop it back in the mail postage paid when you're done.

A given College course is only x number of credit hours. If I can get a degree online, certainly I should be able to get a degree in my car. How about a satelite radio station offering education course or courses?

Yea really, I not only do this, I see many others getting into it while alone in the car. Kinda funny. Even though I don't aspire to be a professional singer, it helps clear one's mind and keeps the stinking thinking away for a few miles. Products - CDs to help you learn to sing.
