It all starts with a new Brainstorm. Any registered user can set up a Brainstorm with a question, a description, and a bounty. Simple.
The bounty is the financial incentive being offered to draw users to suggest great ideas, and can range currently from $5 to $25. (Besides the bounty, there's a $4.95 listing fee, plus a 10% surcharge on the Bounty.)
So how do users earn bounty? Read on...
Once it's live, the Brainstorm appears on the home page, and an email alert goes out to our community of BountyStormers. They'll come to the site to suggest great ideas and to try and earn a share of that bounty.
Brainstorming lasts for just 12 hours, but don't worry, there'll be plenty of great ideas. That's because the site includes some powerful tools, including Google, Flikr, and our own proprietary brainstorming technology, Molecular Thinking.
Once the Brainstorming phase ends, then Voting begins. For the next 12 hours, BountyStormers can vote for their favorite ideas for the Brainstorm.
While the vote bounty lasts, BountyStormers can earn 25 cents for each Brainstorm they vote on, provided they cast votes for at least 10 of the Brainstorm's ideas (or half the number of ideas, if there are fewer than 20 ideas for a brainstorm). It adds up fast!
After just 24 hours, the brainstorm is closed and BountyStorms will count the votes to determine the Top 3 ideas. They'll each earn a cut of the Bounty:
#1 Idea: 40%
#2 Idea: 20%
#3 Idea: 10%
Another 10% of the Bounty goes to the two top Word Atoms that help spark the most popular idea (they get 5% each).
The remaining 20% is the "get out the vote" fund used to encourage BountyStormers to vote during the voting phase.
