Melior Technologies is an Austin-based company specializing in the fusion of ecommerce and social networking technologies. BountyStorms is the first of company's three unique brainstorming sites that use crowdsourcing to generate great ideas, and online payments to reward our community.
Edward Cruz is the founder of Melior Technologies, and the creator of BountyStorms, along with it's unique brainstorming technology, Molecular Thinking.
"The original idea for BountyStorms and its technological engine, Molecular Thinking, came to me one day when the architect of a project I was working on was trying to come up with a name for a new consulting methodology. I couldn't think of anything of the top of my head, but I had something I wanted to try."
"So I tore up a blank 8.5 x 11 piece of paper, handed the pieces to all of my colleagues, and asked them to write down words that they thought were related to the our work, or just whatever they wanted if they couldn't think of anything. Then I took them, put them in my baseball cap, and mixed them up."
"Next, I held out the cap to the architect, asked him to take out two pieces of paper at a time and read what he took out to everyone. At first, nothing really useful came of it. But after a few more tries, he picked out these two words:"
Simple and Fly
"We all kind of laughed ("Super Fly - The New Methodology"), but then he started saying the words together again, and in one of those Eureka! moments, he had the name for the new methodology: Simplify.
"Since then, I've always had a styrofoam coffee cup on my desk to serve as an impromptu brainstorming machine that I and my colleagues can use. Many interesting and useful ideas have come from the free association of the words, concepts, and phrases that we have put it and then taken out again."
